Validation of the long-stay visa (VLS):

Types of visa or residence permit possible for a young foreign employee

Long-stay visa equivalent to residence permit (VLS-TS) “employee”:

For a fixed-term or permanent employment contract (CDD/CDI)

Issued for stays longer than 3 months

Temporary residence permit “employee”:

If the stay lasts more than one year or if the VLS-TS expires

Issued by the prefecture of the place of residence

“Temporary worker” visa:

For short-term employment (CDD less than 12 months)

Less common for a “young employee”

Multi-year residence permit “talent passport”:

For recent graduates, researchers, qualified employees, or startups

Accessible if you have a diploma equivalent to at least a bachelor’s degree (bac +3), a contract longer than 1 year, and a salary ≥ approximately €41,000 per year.

If you have a VLS-TS, you must:

Validate the visa online within 3 months of arrival

Pay a fee via a fiscal stamp

You will then receive a validation certificate which serves as your residence permit.
